Currently accredited with the Independent and the Irish Times newspapers as China correspondent. China film correspondent for Variety entertainment newspaper and a regular contributor to the South China Morning Post and Monocle magazine.
I joined the Independent from The Times in Beijing, where I was working as a stringer.
As well as covering all aspects of the political, social and cultural scene in China, I’ve also done freelance work for the BBC, including the World Service and Five Live; for Irish broadcasters RTE, where I’ve done research and coordination work for the Prime Time TV current affairs show, as well as regular radio packages; I’m a regular contributor to Radio New Zealand and the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

I’ve worked for many media outlets. These include the South China Morning Post, China Media Journal, Executive magazine and Peninsula magazine in Hong Kong. Variety entertainment magazine in the United States. Germany’s Sueddeutsche Zeitung daily, Prinz, and Stadt magazine.
I worked as a script editor and production assistant with Pictures in Motion, an Irish video production company.
For two years I published a magazine for foreign language students visiting Ireland, with a circulation of 20,000.
